Contour Plant Drawing This is my drawing homework. I was assigned to draw a plant using contour lines. I drew my suculants sitting on the windowsill above my kitchen sink.

These are my room contour drawings. I drew a side of a wall in Rossi's room with cabinets, storage, and sinks. On the left is a practice drawing that I did to capture the basic outline of the wall. On the right is my final drawing that I spent more time on with a slower, steadier hand. I went around the cabinets adding in more details than in the practice drawing. 1. Did you use a fluid line? Explain how this is evident. I used a fluid line in this piece by putting my pen back to the last stopping point whenever I needed to pick it up. In contour drawings, fluid lines are most evident by the connecting lines that link every object in the drawing together. They stand out because in most drawings they are not used, so people draw their eyes towards things they do not usually see. 2. Explain your knowledge and creating practice studies with contour line contributed to the success of your piece Practicing with blind contour was the most helpful for this piece. It forces you to really look at what you are drawing without picking up your pen. This made an easier transition to working with other source material. 3. Describe the difference in your contour line drawing to an outline drawing A contour line drawing consists of a fluid line that connects details together, while an outline drawing captures the general shape of an object (and details) without using a fluid line. When someone is drawing they typically just draw the outline of the subject and go back in and fill in details. With contour, it forces you to think of the subject as one piece, filling in details as you go. 4. Explain how your interpretation of line is essential in capturing the look of the room. My interpretation of line is essential in capturing the look of the room because a contour line makes sure that you fill in every detail of the subject matter. I was going in and filling out objects that were on the counter while I was drawing the outline of the counter. This makes you use more detail than you might not have used or noticed previously. 5. What did you learn from completing this drawing? If you could recreate your piece what would you do differently to enhance the final outcome? I learned that contour drawings can be useful in training one's mind to really look at what you are drawing really closely. If I could change anything about my piece I would have spent more time on it so that it could look a little more neat. I would want to take more time to make my perspective and porportions more accurate. Backpack Contour Drawing This is another practice drawing that we did. We took someone's backpack and put it on the table and drew it using contour lines. Blind and Modified Contour Hand Drawings These are my blind and modified hand contour drawings. We did the blind hand drawings as a test to really draw what we were looking at, training our brain to draw what we are actually seeing. With the modified hand, we were allowed to glance down at the paper while we were drawing our hands. |
